From prolific, writer, director, producer Tyler Perry, The Haves and the Have Nots is a new television drama that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their opulent mansion set in Savannah, Georgia.

From the outside, the Cryers are the enviable face of success and wealth, but behind the veil the family’s dysfunction threatens to destroy their world of privilege. Cryer family patriarch Jim Cryer (John Schneider) is a powerful judge whose double-life, including tawdry affairs with high-priced escorts, puts his family and political ambitions at risk. His wife, Katheryn Cryer (Renée Lawless), is the ultimate matriarch portraying a loving and dutiful wife, but she is willing to do anything to protect her family’s status. Their son Wyatt (Aaron O’Connell) is a troubled angry jock who cares little for his own image and finds himself in and out of rehab. His sister Amanda (Jacyln Betham), a struggling law student, tries harder to live up to her parents’ expectations, but unknowingly has befriended a scurrilous young woman, Candace Young, with the power to ruin the entire family.

Hanna Young (Crystal Fox) is the Cryer’s maid and the matriarch of her family. Despite having no money, she has found other types of wealth through religion and virtue. She prides herself on her dutiful son Benny (Tyler Lepley), the glue who helps keep the family together. Hanna does have one dark secret, however, her estranged daughter Candace (Tika Sumpter)—a manipulative opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Other characters in the series include the Cryer’s chef Celine (Eva Tamargo), their wealthy friends Veronica (Angela Robinson) and David Harrington (Peter Parros), and son Wyatt’s rehabilitation counselor, Jeffery Harrington (Gavin Houston).

I must say that I enjoyed the first season of "The Have and Have Nots" but this new season has been an absolute disappointment. Here is my takeaway from what I've seen thus far this season: Tika's character (Candace Young) in my opinion is the best thing about the show, but you weakened her and turned her into a cartoon. If she is supposed to be this young turk, this big bad b****, why was she marginalized? How did she allow herself to get kidnapped so easily with no backup plan? The best villains ALWAYS have a Plan B or are at least 3 steps ahead. When Candace was snatched, in the back of my head, I thought that she was some how prepared for it. Maybe, she knew one of the abductors from the underworld that we have been lead to believe she comes from. Or maybe she was a step ahead of Jim all along and was actually working with the female mob boss, or whatever she is, on something even more sinister. I was hoping for some sign to let me know she was still in control. Instead, Jim Cryer took everything away leaving her a sniveling scared mess. And what about Benny? His comeback from being BRAIN DEAD is comical. I know that miracles exist, but . . . really? I guess his purpose on the show is to provide nothing more than needless eye candy for the ladies. Maybe his contract got renewed at the last minute. I guess I just don't see what he adds to the show. Hanna Young’s Bible thumping self righteous approach to her daughter is growing real thin on me. She needs to start supporting Candace more considering that she is on the brink of becoming a lawyer and could be a powerful ally against the Cryers who almost killed Benny. Besides, it sounds like they have a similar past. Stop hating your child and work with her dummy! Veronica Harrington just stop. Why are you blackmailing your son? What have the Cryers really done for you that justifies helping that morally bankrupt clan? You look ridiculous. In the long run is your soul worth less than David's career ambitions, especially if it means being attached at the hip to the Devil . . . I mean Jim? Oh, and the stock hoodlum ex-boyfriend you pulled out of jail to track down Candace is just insulting. His stereotypical portrayal is just uninteresting. Jeffrey Harrington grow a pair and stop acting so weak! Miranda, I love the craziness. In fact, we should see more of it but done smarter. These comments aren't just coming from a professional woman, but my 11 year old son came in the room, while my husband and I were watching an episode, and commented that "Tyler Perry's writing has gotten really lazy." Tyler think beyond the hour long stage plays you produce and think long term. Even the dialogue in your comedies on OWN seem mistimed.

EXCELLENT COMMENTARY!!!!! The only thing I would add is the ridiculousness of these hiatuses. You reach a milestone 3.59 viewers and then go on hiatus at the peak of the shows growth and mometum. When you return, the star that got you the 3.59 million viewers Tika Sumpter is relegated to the last 4 minutes of all of the episodes. You have yet to approach anywhere near the 3.59 million you had last season....and you only have two episodes left. Even if you reach the 3.59 million in those last two episodes....you go on hiatus again until 2015. Really??? Tyler we thought we could count on you to be different and to not treat us like the mainstream media whose only interest is ratings, sweeps etc. You were different, you didn't care about critics etc....and now since you are on OWN....we the fans have been dissed for the ratings games for Oprah's Network. Disappointed

Question: What happened to the professor that Amanda stabbed in the back in the park in the first episode this season?

    • cityoflaurel Maryland #1979584

Keep in mind that what's happening on the show is happening daily unlike other drama shows which is why they may or may not show the professor. Only a few days or maybe a week has past and because the show is only once a week for a few months, they can't go in to detail in 1 hour and wait to later shows to explain things. The show need to be on more than once a week. This type of show can work better if not once a week for a few months.

Example: the show 24 is for a full season but everything is happening in 24 hours and each show may show an hour at a time or two. It seems like a day or week but not.

Amanda stabbed him in the last episode of season 2 and I don't know what has happened to him. He hasn't been brought up.

I just started watching this last night via "on demand." My mother told me about it a while back, and I just remembered. It's a very good show. You were able to make me dislike some of the characters such as Jim and Veronica, and respect some people like Hanna. Some of the acting is a little sub-par at times, but for the most part, I like it. I'm on episode 2 of Season 2. I can't seem to find the first season. I really wanted to start from there...but I get it. The homosexuality does not bother me, although I am a heterosexual Christian female. I don't think you are promoting homosexuality. I think you are just trying to include things in your story that happen in real life? G** folks are a significant portion of the population. It makes sense to have some homosexuality in the story. Anyway, nice writing. I needed another television show to add to my list.

Hi! First of all I love THATHN!! However, since I had my satellite disconnected I can no longer watch the show. I simply didn't want to continue to pay a ridiculously high satellite bill when I only watched five to ten channels. I have gotten the Roku box (which I love) but I can't watch THATHN :-(. Will you please consider making the tv show to the Roku box. There's a listing for THATHN play but not the tv show. Thanks so much Mr Perry and I can't wait to watch the show on my Roku box :-)

Personally, I cannot STAND that evil b**** Veronica. She is verbally abusing her only child just because he is gay! Totally absurd and unjust. Man f I were David, I would divorce her on the spot, because she'll have to learn that there is something money can never buy. And that's LOVE!!
