Tyler Perry has struck a new multi-year first-look series deal with Netflix, adding on to the first-look features deal he struck with the streamer in October of last year. As part of this new arrangement, Netflix has ordered a new drama series from Perry entitled “Beauty In Black,” the first greenlight under the deal.
“Beauty In Black” is a 16-episode drama series written, directed, and produced by Perry. It follows two women leading different lives — Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out and Mallory is running a successful business — who find themselves entangled in each other’s lives. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland are set to produce “Beauty in Black” for Tyler Perry Studios.
Perry will also soon release the Netflix feature “Mea Culpa” which comes to the streamer on February 23rd. Written, directed, and produced by Perry and starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes, “Mea Culpa” tells the story of a criminal defense attorney who, in the hopes of becoming partner, takes on the case of an artist who may or may not have murdered his girlfriend.
