Tyler Perry To Write And Direct New Film “Straw” For Netflix

As part of his content deal with the streamer, Tyler Perry is set to write and direct Netflix’s upcoming drama “Straw.” The film follows a single mother as she faces a series of unfortunate events that leads her down an unexpected path. According to the logline, “she becomes entangled in a situation she never imagined and finds herself at the center of suspicion in a world that seems indifferent to her existence.”

The film will star Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, and Mike Merrill. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will also produce the film alongside Perry.

“Straw” is the latest project resulting from Perry and Netflix’s creative partnership, in which Perry will write, direct, and produce features and series under respective multi-year, first-look deals. Perry currently has several other projects under way with Netflix, including the film “Six Triple Eight” and the drama series “Beauty in Black.” His most recent Netflix release, “Mea Culpa” starring Kelly Rowland, premiered earlier this year.
