Tyler Perry has been included in The Hollywood Reporter’s 50 Forces for Change — a list of the creative and business change makers who are continuing to push the industry to be inclusive onscreen and off.
As a prolific producer and director, Perry continues to create opportunities for Black and brown talent, both in front of and behind the camera. As he tells THR, he’s worked hard to learn how to “let go of more and train people to handle more,” adding, “I’ve been proud of how they’ve been able to step in and make things work.”
Joining Perry on the list is Kerry Washington, who was announced earlier this year to be both starring in and executive producing Perry’s upcoming Netflix film Six Triple Eight. As for who Perry names as the force for change in his own career? Oprah Winfrey, he shares. Perry was previously named on THR’s list of 50 Most Powerful TV Showrunners of 2022.
