Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin have set the director  and the cast of “R&B”, their first faith-based film collaboration for Netflix. This is the first project as part of their partnership with the streamer to produce faith-based films under a multi-year, multi-picture, first-look deal.

Alanna Brown, who most recently directed Netflix’s Trees of Peace, is set to direct “R&B.”  Serayah, Tyler Lepley, and Phylicia Rashad are set to lead the ensemble cast of  the film, while Walnette Santiago, Nijah Brenea, James Lee Thomas, Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, Jermaine Dupri, and Lecrae Moore comprise the supporting cast. Perry and Franklin will both serve as producers, while Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland and Bart Lipton are signed on to executive produce.

Written by Mike Elliott and Cory Tynan, “R&B” is a modern-day retelling of the story of Ruth and Boaz, an iconic Biblical love story. Set in Tennessee, the film follows a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman, only to find the love of her life and gain the mother she never had.

“R&B” marks the latest expansion of Perry’s creative relationship with Netflix, as he also has multi-year, first-look series and features deals with Netflix that sees Perry write, direct and produce a variety of projects, including the forthcoming film “The Six Triple Eight.”
