Tyler Perry’s storytelling stronghold with BET+

Earlier this summer Viacom announced their new streaming service, BET+, crafted in partnership with Tyler Perry. While eager audiences have to wait until September to dive in, the excitement is buzzing with the fact that the latest entertainment platform is kicking off with exclusive Tyler Perry content, proving yet again that Perry is a force to be reckoned with.

Set to feature scripted originals and the iconic collection of works from Tyler Perry, the platform will be the go-to destination for more than 1,000 hours of premium content centered around African-American sitcoms, films, dramas, and specials. For Perry, BET+ isn’t just a streaming service—it’s an avenue of creation that pushes forth his longtime charge to share stories that showcase characters and narratives that are diverse and largely underrepresented.

“African Americans are the leading consumers of streaming services, with higher SVOD adoption rates than other consumers, which is why we’re so excited to launch a premium product for this underserved audience,” BET Networks President Scott Mills said. “Tyler Perry is the perfect partner for BET+. The combination of new, original shows and his giant library of popular movies, series and stage plays that Tyler brings to our joint venture creates an amazing product for his large and passionate fan base.”

Perry has steadily situated himself at the forefront of the continually evolving industry, seeking out innovative and inclusive endeavors that not only cater to his large fanbase, but also work to create a landscape of storytelling that celebrates the African-American community.
