Tyler Perry has graced the cover of Backstage Magazine to discuss his forthcoming film “The Six Triple Eight.”
Featuring an exclusive interview with Perry and quotes from the film’s producer Nicole Avant and producer and star Kerry Washington, the story gives a behind-the-scenes look at how “The Six Triple Eight” came to be, and reveals how the forgotten history depicted in the film transformed Perry as a filmmaker. “Not only was I supposed to do this, but I had to honor [the story] in such a way that everyone knew how incredibly special it was,” he shares.
“The Six Triple Eight” tells the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion: the only predominantly Black, all-female army corps battalion during World War II and stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the battalion’s commanding officer, and Ebony Obsidian as officer Lena Derriecott King. The film opens in select theaters on December 4th, and will be available to stream globally on Netflix on December 20th.
