Tyler Perry at home on The Hollywood Reporter’s 100 Most Powerful People in Entertainment

Tyler Perry found himself in familiar surroundings this week as he, once again, was included in The Hollywood Reporter’s, 100 Most Powerful People in Entertainment.

In a year that saw a whole lot of shake-up in all things around the entertainment industry, and 32 new personalities entering the list, Tyler Perry continued his meteoric rise within the prestigious group to the 38th ranking. Perry has been included in every year since THR’s started the list and has consistently risen from 71st to 67th to 57th to this year’s 38th.

His biggest jump to date may have a lot to do with the much-talked-about accomplishments Perry has been able to record during this calendar year. From his new partnership with Paramount and Viacom to becoming the cornerstone of Viacom’s new streaming service BET+ to the star-studded grand opening of the Atlanta based, Tyler Perry Studios. It feels like 2019 will be one to remember.

Perry’s deal with BET+ will see a pipeline of 90 episodes a year for fans to binge-watch with the political drama, The Oval and dramatic comedy, Sistas, being the first series to premiere this month. Other content will include a dramedy and a comedy series as well as a live holiday-themed special.

What’s clear is that the multi-hyphenate Perry will continue to create a new blueprint for how one navigates Hollywood and he will continue to do it as he has from the beginning… his way.
