The Perry Foundation, in conjunction with local non-profit Empty Stocking Fund, donated back-to-scool supplies to Southwest Atlanta students returning to local schools for the new academic year.
All six schools, Finch Elementary School, Sylvan Hills Middle School, Perkerson Elementary School, Therrell High School, Paul D. West Middle School, and Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary School are in close proximity to Tyler Perry Studios and the Foundation worked closely with school administration to provide items specific to the individual school’s requirements and curriculum. Both the Foundation and the Studio are keenly aware that education is the greatest equalizer for children who struggle to have even their most basic needs met. Finding as many ways as possible to support local schools and youth groups is crucial. The struggle within the community of Southwest Atlanta is significant, and the recent pandemic has only exacerbated some of the issues children are facing every day.
In total, nearly 3000 items were given, including 1250 backpacks filled with a student supply kit consisting of everything from workbooks, crayons, and glue sticks, to index cards, rulers, pens, and pencils. The supplies were all purchased from Empty Stocking Fund, a local charity that provides “core essential supplies throughout the year to support positive social and emotional development and academic success.”
A team from Tyler Perry Studios delivered the items to the schools, which will be handed out to the excited students by teachers and staff.
