Description:

From prolific, writer, director, producer Tyler Perry, The Haves and the Have Nots is a new television drama that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their opulent mansion set in Savannah, Georgia.

From the outside, the Cryers are the enviable face of success and wealth, but behind the veil the family’s dysfunction threatens to destroy their world of privilege. Cryer family patriarch Jim Cryer (John Schneider) is a powerful judge whose double-life, including tawdry affairs with high-priced escorts, puts his family and political ambitions at risk. His wife, Katheryn Cryer (Renée Lawless), is the ultimate matriarch portraying a loving and dutiful wife, but she is willing to do anything to protect her family’s status. Their son Wyatt (Aaron O’Connell) is a troubled angry jock who cares little for his own image and finds himself in and out of rehab. His sister Amanda (Jacyln Betham), a struggling law student, tries harder to live up to her parents’ expectations, but unknowingly has befriended a scurrilous young woman, Candace Young, with the power to ruin the entire family.

Hanna Young (Crystal Fox) is the Cryer’s maid and the matriarch of her family. Despite having no money, she has found other types of wealth through religion and virtue. She prides herself on her dutiful son Benny (Tyler Lepley), the glue who helps keep the family together. Hanna does have one dark secret, however, her estranged daughter Candace (Tika Sumpter)—a manipulative opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Other characters in the series include the Cryer’s chef Celine (Eva Tamargo), their wealthy friends Veronica (Angela Robinson) and David Harrington (Peter Parros), and son Wyatt’s rehabilitation counselor, Jeffery Harrington (Gavin Houston).

Great show! I've watched both seasons and enjoyed them. On the Tyler Perry Show, actors Aaron Oconnell (Wyatt) and Gavin Houston (Jeffrey) recently spoke about their characters. They do a fine job, by the way. But what got me was the almost-kissing scene they talked about. TV has come a long way, but still there's discomfort on the part of 2 straight pro. male performers simply kissing, touching lips-- and they really didn't even do it! And listening to that, one must wonder whether q**** men who play or have played characters that kiss or simulate making love to women on stage or screen have the same anxiety. I would bet that most don't. The reason: there's still a stigma attached to homosexuality. One day there may come a time when men kissing each other on prime-time TV won't be such a big deal, but we're not there yet.

While the story line keeps you guessing, the acting is only mediocre and could possibly be due to the slowness of the scripting. As far as anyone expecting Christians to be perfect...that is not the case. Christians are striving to have a closer relationship with God, but they are still human beings with all the same flaws as everyone else. Candace must have hurt her mother tremendously at one time and her mother knows how devious she can be. Many of the rich and powerful are so lacking in morality and basic goodness....sometimes they are the poorest people I know.

While I agree with the fact the fact that the scenes drag out a little too long, I absolutely love the show and am a very loyal fan of TP. Even if some of the acting may seen mediocre to some people, the storyline is so good that I didn't notice. I would like to see shorter scenes and more show. I can't wait until May.

Let messy this, on the last Tyler Perry Show, I hope that someone from the audience will ask Mr. Perry when does the next episodes will start. Or, hopefully. Mr. Perry will mention it. I don't think it's fair to keep the fans in limbo. WE DESERVE TO, IF NOT ABSOLUTE, BUT APPROXIMATELY WHEN THE NEXT EPISODES WILL RESUME! I love Hanna dearly, but what in the world has Candace done to her that would make Hanna treat Candace so mean??!!?? That story needs to come out. I thought that parents should love their children unconditionally and that would include you, too, Ms Veronica! So who is going to bail Hanna out of jail? When Candace mention something about dying babies, does that mean her baby is dead? Hmm, who stole Benny from the county hospital? Katherine, it would appear, to be the likely source since she wants to move him to a private hospital, but you never know. We know that Hanna told Detective Byron that Wyatt Cryer was the one who ran Benny over and since Det. Byron is the cop that Jim hired to follow Hanna around, who turned in Wyatt? I'm just asking. Peace....

MR. PERRY. PLEASE CONSIDER MOVING THE HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS TO A MAINSTREAM NETWORK THAT CAN HANDLE 22 CONSECUTIVE EPISODES PER SEASON & THAT HAS ON DEMAND. OWNTV IS COMING UP SHORT!!

Amen Miss Emma! I cannot STAND Hanna!!!! Everytime I see her I just want to come through the screen and slap the living daylights out of her! Her treatment of Candace is beyond deplorable! What a hateful, vengeful, heartless, abusive, ungrateful pseudo-Christian she is! She is a sorry excuse for a mother and a human being! Judging from her treatment of Candace as an adult, my heart aches and breaks AT THE VERY THOUGHT of how she probably treated her as a child. She probably beat her and berated her on a daily basis. Hanna is without a doubt the worst mother on television or in the movies! Mommie Dearest doesn't have a THING on Hanna! Why ANYONE likes or relates to her character is beyond me!

I agree with Angel on Hanna's character, but it keeps the series interesting. And, keep in mind, christians are still human. The character on the show that I despise is Veronica. She has said some unforgiveable things to Jeffrey. She is a true "B" and thinks she runs everything and everyone. I cannot wait until someone gives her a piece of their mind and/or slaps her. All-in-all, I love this show! I do feel Tyler Perry could find another network to air his show in a better manner than OWN. In the meantime, keep bringing us shows we can relate to, Mr. Perry.

Why does the only person who claims to be a Christian on this show curse people out, tell others how she'll kick their behind, gets in fights and shows only hate and resentment toward her own daughter and anyone else that gets in her way? What happened to forgiveness and love of family despite what they've done? If you're trying to portray how 'unchristian' many who call themselves Christian can be, you have succeeded.

Amen to that Emma That's how Christians are what's convenient for them when they have them holier than thou moments. I could go own and own about so called Christians.

TP, I love the fact that you have supported and started so many African American careers. Recently, you have given another young male an awesome role as the arresting officer in next weeks episode. I hope that you can give him more roles in the future on this show and other projects. I am confident you will continue to be impressed with this young man because he is extremely talented and consistent in everything he does.
