I'm Still In The Fight!

One day I’m going to write a book and tell you about all the crap that goes on behind the scenes in my life. Good God almighty, you won't believe some of the things I have to deal with. You would think that by now I wouldn’t have to fight to release a movie... but I do. Everything is a fight. I mean everything. By the time the movie comes out I’m so exhausted from the fight that it’s hard to unwind and take it all in.

Hear me good when I say this to you, I never take for granted that you are going to come out and see my films. Never. I know that you have a lot of choices and a lot of other things you can do with your time and money, so all I can tell you is that I’m so glad that you do and that you have been with me from the beginning. This means the world to me. It really does. That is where I get my rewards, knowing that you are with me. I want you to know that I, and everybody that works at TPS and their families, appreciate it so much.

With that said, MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION opens Friday, June 29th. That’s tomorrow. Just to let you know where this idea came from... I was sitting at dinner with a friend and I said to them, “the punishment for Bernie Madoff should have been that he had to move in with Madea." Isn’t the thought of that funny? Light bulbs went off in my head, so I wrote THE FUNNIEST Madea movie I’ve ever written. You’ll see! This movie is hilarious. It’s nonstop laughter. I sure hope you have plans to go out and take your family, friends, social and church groups to see MADEA’S WITNESS PROTECTION this weekend. The first weekend is so important. That’s how you’re judged in Hollywood. And that is how you can help me fight, by showing up at the movie theater this weekend.

I sure hope you still have my back… I need your help to win this fight.

I’ll be on Facebook, Twitter and tylerperry.com’s message board reading your comments.

Talk soon,

Hello Brother Perry, I am so happy that God blessed you with so many gifts. WOW! You are an amazing man sir. I just told my nine year old grandson the other day as we talked about you and how hard it was for you in the beginning and how your faith kept you going strong. I know its been a struggle for you and you continue to RISE LIKE THE PHOENIX and bring out another masterpiece. I will be at the movies to see "The Witness Protection" movie. I want to see if these white folks are going to be able to stand up to Madea...lol ...lol. I know its going to be awesome Brother Perry, totally awesome. One of my favorite scenes from your trailer is the part when the white girl was in Madea's bed. Madea was as always in rare form. As for all the comments I read today, I want you to know that you are loved by more than those who are envious of you and always have a "Spike" in their tongues as they spew out nasty comments . Maybe the six mules and a donkey kicked him around too much. I will be waiting on your book, supporting you as always and asking God to keep you above the chaos as the negative side continues to playa hate on you. THANKS Brother Perry for just being you. Blessings always! Gigi

Still in the fight, but have to admit I'm tired of having to fight for everything. It's one thing to fight, another to never win. Glad to hear somebody is winning.

Good evening ! Just wanted to say, in addition to my earlier request- for a ticket to see your new movie this weekend- I really would like some buttered popcorn and a cherry coke too!! And no...I'm not joking. I really could use some time out and laugh for a while...laugh myself right up to Heaven! Anyways, I'm the one, patiently waiting. Oh and by the way...if you want to unwind and take something in...go outside- feel a cool breeze cutting through the heat and ride on that wave for awhile...it's really sweet.

Good morning, Tyler. I just read your email, and you know what?? No worries, family! As I went through your site to see where I could respond, I saw hundreds of other family members encouraging you, just I came to do. We got you. I WILL be sitting in the theater sometime this weekend, with my box of popcorn, ready to get my laugh on. Like I said we got you...and if anybody wants to mess with you...they gonna get got! LOL!! I'm running with you all the way, bad back and pink sneakers in tow! Let's RUN!

Brother Tyler, Focus on God's grace (per advice from Pastor Joseph Prince) and not on the task at hand. When we walk in obedience to The Holy Spirit, we can rest in Him. God's grace is for you so use it. Believe in it, rest in it, bask in it.....It's times like this when God can truly show us the benefits of believing on Him. Not our ability, but His.

So I read obout the obstacles you are facing in trying to get your movie in theaters. Just give the names of the people who are giving you the problem & I will take care of it. LOL!!! In all seriousness, I have learned that what God has in store for you no one can take away from you, no matter what they do. I only know you through your work and I'm proud of you. Keep up the good fight, you are not alone.

Tyler: I understand that you are creative, wonderfully so! And your post (today) makes perfect sense per your idea for “Madea’s Witness Protection.” My concern is the same concern I have for all African Americans who have the finances and clout to produce movies, sitcoms and other programs in Hollywood, for television, and on the stage: do it for/with US. So often, prominent Blacks in the entertainment industry build their rep (and fortune) using Black actors and culturally-related story lines. Then they “make it.” And suddenly the actors, story lines and talk-show guests are White. It’s like seeing Black athletes who date Black in school, make it into the big leagues, then date/marry White. It happens far too frequently to be a coincidence. If Hollywood hired African Americans as often as they hired Caucasians there wouldn’t be a concern at all. But Hollywood does not. We are still the last to be hired, still pigeonholed as thugs, cops, obese mammies and Uncle Toms, still the first to be killed off, still solo (1 black per movie) and rarely (RARELY) shown in loving relationships WITH EACH OTHER. As one of the very few Black producers with real power and the finances to back that power up, yes, we depend on you to hire African Americans and show us in all our diversity: rich, poor, married, not married, thuggish and intelligently not. Eddie Murphy held the line in “Coming to America” and Spike Lee held it too. It’s like the affirmative action argument. I keep hearing we no longer need it, though we all know our employment numbers would dramatically drop without it. To borrow a Spike Lee quote: WAKE UP.

Tyler, First of all the boxing gloves you have on are not earthly ones because you are fighting principalitoes, not man. All you have to do is put on God's gloves and rest your arms, because He is taking care of it for you. We tire ourselves out sometimes, huffing and puffing; but listen to Ms. Cora....'Get out of HIs way!" I didn't suggest it was easy.....but once you truly hand it over, sit back and watch the blessings flow. Pray for those in Hollywood, you don't inderstand what can happen when you mess with God's annointed. Secondly, after looking at your trailer for Witness Protection, you corssed the line....you brought this into "their" territory. Now, did you think they would let that happen without a fight? Keep crossing those lines and bringing laughter, love and God's word, becuase pretty soon, the line will disappear and it will be those who love God and those who don't. Now which side do you think Hollywood is going to be on. Tyler, you've read Revelations!!!! DO NOT GIVE UP Beth Anna MoonRay

Well if they fought George Lucas on trying to release a film like Red Tails, you know they're gonna fight you two...but tough times gravitate to tough people, because God has built them for it. Not only will you survive the Hollywood nonsense, you'll conquer it. On a side note, I saw you on Leno last night, and you were hysterical! Proud of ya' bruh! Keep up the good work, and be BLESSED this day...especially at the Box Office today! ;)

Tyler, Please be encouraged. Remember, that you have the host of heaven fighting for you. Please know that because you promote your faith and you use your gifts to honor Jesus Christ... the fight is always on. Keep fighting the good fight of faith and let the box office results kick the enemy in the teeth. You are covered by the blood of Jesus and you are a" touch me not". The scripture says in Proverbs 18:10, "The name of the Lord is strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe". I leave you with this famous line from the movie, The Help...You is smart...you is kind...you is important. ;0) Peace and joy, Linda
