I Thank God For Closed Doors

When I wake up in the morning and see the sunrise as I’m running, I thank God for new mercies every day. As I was running this morning I started thinking about this and you know how much I like to share my morning thoughts… LOL

I was out just thinking about my life and all the times that I wished that a door had opened. All the times I had promoters and people lie to me saying that they would help me... I remember wishing the bank would approve my loan request for a house or a car (usually one I couldn’t afford at the time). I wished that this person would help me or that person would do something to help my business, or this person would help my dreams come true.

As I look back now I’m so glad that none of those situations worked out. I’m so glad God closed those doors because they forced me to find the right path for me. If you’re in this situation and you feel like doors are closing all around you and you are frustrated, here’s something I’d like you to think about: Life can be like a living maze. You know what a maze is. In a maze, you start out at one end and your objective is to find your way to the finish line.

Many times you may make a turn and hit a dead end and you have to go another way. Just like life, that door closing on you sends you another way. It doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen, it just means you need to go another way. If you keep moving, eventually you will get to where you’re going.

Another thing that is important when you’re in a maze, as in life, is to remember where you have been. If you get turned around and confused in a maze, in order to get out, you have to remember the dead-ends that you have already hit. Just like in life you have to remember all the doors that were closed so you don’t waste time going that way again. If you want to get to your dreams you can’t expect to get there by doing the same thing and going to the same spots. You must try something different. I’m not saying give up on your dream, I’m saying try another path to the same dream. Same maze, same dream, but take a different direction to get there.

I feel sorry for people who have a dream and give up because it gets hard. Let me tell you something, "IT’S GOING TO GET HARD!" And my answer to that is, "SO WHAT? MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!" Don’t stop because a door closed. I have learned to thank God for closed doors. You have to know that if God wanted you to go that way, no man could close that door. But for some reason he allowed that door to be closed, but if that one was closed I assure you that there is one that is open somewhere. And it’s the right one. Don’t stop until you are living your dream.

Is this helping anybody?

I don't usually do this. I don't usually comment on someone's thoughts and feelings, whether positive or negative or otherwise. I'll be honest, I've been looking for some type of inspiration...something that would point me in the direction I need to go.

My favorite part: "You have to know that if God wanted you to go that way, no man could close that door."... In other words I should stop focusing on the doors that I want to be open because no matter how hard I wish them to be open, if it is not God's will, they will soon be close. And I wont be able to do anything to open them. No family member or friend will be able to open them for me. I should learn to accept to go through the doors that God opens for me. Doesnt mean that the way is going to be easy, but I would be at rest because I would stop fearing that someone closes these doors opened by God Himself... :-)

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful and simple. Wonderful to get insight from a person who is seemingly at the "end" of the maze in some respects (though I assume you always dream bigger, too). Praise God for closed doors as HE is the author and perfector of our faith, not us. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and journey.

Thanks Tyler for posting this! I think God closes doors to lead us through certain ways and also to certain people. I had a situation where I was really trying to get to know a guy and God kept blocking my path so we never actually to spend time together. I am glad this happened because he was in a dating relationship then even got married. I also think God closes doors so we work on trusting him and following his leading instead of just relying on ourselves. What you posted is a great help and a great reminder to rely on God's understanding even when things may be hard or confusing. I am also glad you mentioned not going down the same dead end streets again, it is important to learn from the past.

Yes, this does work and I am thankful for closed doors, even ones I tried to kick down but I know that our god was always with me and there to close the doors. I recently discovered how therapeutic writing has been for me in dealing with my own struggles of hurts and pains during my teenage years. We share the same hurts but at least now I am trusting god to use it for his good. I have so many thoughts I want to share to help breathe life to so many out there and in pursuit to finding my open door. Thanks for being an example and an inspiration for so many of us that have suffered disappointments and hurts. It's great to know no matter how long it took to get rid of it, we can still dream and live life to the fullest.

I'm very disappointed! "I" thought this was SO encouraging! I put this on my FB because it helped me. But, no likes on FB? I got more likes when 7 Eleven was having a free slurpees day! God takes us through challenges not so he can break us, but so he can make us bendable and moldable. He wants us to learn to preserve, and one day as we "press on" we will be conformed to his image. James 1: 2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Thank you for the encouragement Tyler. I look forward to meeting you one day in person.

Tyler, I never hear anyone call you "Tyler", so I thought I would be a little different~ if that's okay :) With a humble heart, I say, "Thank you". All my life I have had doors closed and sometimes even locked! But now, I'm more aware of the paths that I have chosen. The question one should ask is ..."Am I being led"?. This is the question of the hour, so many of us fail to realize that our steps are "ordered" by the Lord. In the 23rd Psalm of David ( One of my personal favorites) David say's, " The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want, He makes me to lay down in green pastures, He "leads" me by the still waters and He restores my soul, He leads me down the path of Righteousness for His name's sake"..How awesome is that? Tyler, you're correct "It is Hard", but as long as we are under "His name" we will win! God Bless you Brother "T".

Yes! It's helping me ~ I already know that stuff, and am v. familiar with all you're saying there because I've gone through it, and know that God is about to open that door for me He promised years ago . . . the kairos moment approaches quickly! I like the maze illustration - very apt. And since you're talking about the place where I am now, it's always good to hear another good word about the closed doors, and be encouraged not to get frustrated! I only recently discovered you Tyler, and am so glad I did! I can hardly believe I never heard about you before, but then, I don't watch TV! I just get movies from the library, and I "happened" to find Alex Cross there, which led me to Madea only because I was curious to see what someone who came out with a great film like that would do with Madea's character. I don't know when I laughed so much. I praise God much for you, and thank Him for your great example of not quitting, and pressing on through to victory! YAY! Yes, I would love to work with you . . . I have always had a great love for theatre. So I'm going to respond to that generous invitation of yours soon! I have the mantle of Deborah (Judges) - warrior/prophetess/singer - and know God plans to use my voice to reach many people for His kingdom, and He has been getting me ready for that. He placed me in Royal Oak 3 years ago and is taking care of me here, preparing me for the next step. ("How long, Lord, how long?" Psalm 13) I've learned faith only works with patience . . . . :) Well, I'll write more in my application I guess, or this is going to get ridiculously long . . . Many blessings to you and yours - I LOVE your work! and appreciate you so much . . . our God is AWESOME, and Oh, how He LOVES us! Nothing is too hard for Him! He never leaves us, fails us, or forsakes us ~ Shalom, Deborah :):)

This is exactly what I needed. I feel like right now God is closing all the doors on Me. Finishing my engineering degree last year, I thought that this year will be the year I start working as an engineer and making money, but God has something else for me. He has pretty much closed all doors in that area for now. I don't know what his reasons are but one thing I know for sure is that he knows me more than I know myself and he wants only the best for me. It seems hard at the moment but I know I will be laughing at the end. As the bible says, God's ways are not our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are his ways higher than our ways, and his thoughts than ours. Therefore, all I can do right now is praise and worship him and be closer to him because his name has to be glorified through me!!!
