This Is For Frustrated Dreamers

I was driving in to work this morning and I started thinking about all the days I dreaded going to work. I was so sick of it… the job, my boss, the people I worked with, the traffic… I would wake up angry every morning. I didn’t want to deal with the crap of the job, but I was forced to go. I had been homeless, I was broke, living paycheck to hopefully the next paycheck. I couldn’t take a day off for fear I would get fired. I was just frustrated. I thought I hated my life and the job.

It was so aggravating because God had placed all these dreams and hopes in my soul and mind and I had no idea how they were going to come to pass. To have a dream of being something better and living better than the way I was at that moment and to not see a way of getting there felt like death to me. I thought, “Dear God, why would you give me so much hope and not make a way?” But what I learned through prayer was, with no path in front of you and no road map… this is where true faith begins. With faith I realized that I wasn’t frustrated with my life or the job, I was frustrated because I was a person who had dreams for myself, a person who had visions for my life and I wasn’t living it. Have you ever been there, where you felt so strongly that there was more to this life than what you see in front of you?

One of the most difficult things about being a dreamer is the fear that the dream will never happen. I’m here as a living witness to tell you your dreams can come true. You can’t give up. And I am here to let you know that everything can work together for your good. The time that you are spending on that job that you think is a dead end is not. You’re being prepared just like I was. I was a shoeshine boy, I worked as a bill collector, a used car salesman, in housekeeping in a hotel, and they all were preparation for where I am now.

What do these things have to do with where I am now? I’m glad you asked. I am able to use skills that I learned. I shined shoes, so I know how to shine my shoes if I need them to look nice. Selling used cars was a great way to learn how to close a deal. Bill collecting taught me great negotiation skills. Working at that 5-star hotel taught me a lot about travel. Every experience in your life is here to teach you something.

Today, while you’re at work, don’t be frustrated. Look around you and ask God what are you there to learn and how will it be a part of your future dream. Honor that job, do the best you can at it, because God will bless you for honoring something that belongs to another.

I hope this inspires you today. If you need a little more inspiration then watch my first sit-down interview in years with Oprah on Oprah's Next Chapter. It airs this Sunday on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network at 9/8c. I talk a little about not giving up. I know it will move you.

Here’s a prayer for today: “God help me hold on, help me to get to what I dream of, help me to honor where I am today so that I can appreciate where I will be tomorrow. In Jesus' name.”

Hello, Tyler. I'm a female fan. I'm a string artist and an aspiring writer. In 2008, Bishop Paul and Debra Morton bought a portrait of yours that I did with strings, and I understand they gave it to as a christmas gift. I wrote a script you would die for; it's a Madea screenplay, and you'd snatch it off my hands when you see it. I also wrote two episodes of For Better or Worse that will impress you. I am aware of your legal troubles with those who claimed you used their works, and I understand how this must make you feel, but please remember that there are aspiring writers, who wouldn't have a chance unless someone takes a chance with them. I wrote a letter of authorization signed by me saying that you're free to read my scripts for consideration, and if you're not interested, there will be no legal ramifications or backlash. Anyway, I'm confident my scripts are so good, you'll not only want them, but will put me on your team. My phone number and email are available. I hope to hear from you. Thank you.

I only hope I had that prayer in me a month ago, because I walk out and quit my job. I felt like a failure because I gave up. But I know I'm not. Because I know God have favors for me and I pray everyday and tell my mountains to move so God can shower me with my blessings.

Mr perry, I thank you much for your words of inspiration and encouragement, I am a frustrated dreamer at times but I am still holding on. I must say your interview moved me. I am a mortgage Underwriter but cooking is my passion, my love for cooking came from my from my mother who was a chef but gave up on her dream after years of trying but never had a break. when finally was able to open up a storefront where she would also be cooking in the back then shortly thereafter Katrina hit, with no warning and no insurance she lost everything and came to a stop. I watched my Mom's dream fade away and her passion is my passion therefore I want to do all that i can to make it happen. In august 2011 i was working as a contract Mortgage Underwriter at a major Bank in Birmingham and I would drive back home to Atlanta on weekends to be with my family, 3 children then and 1 on the way at the time. During one of the trip back home, I stepped out on faith and rented a place to open what I have been dreaming of opening, a fast casual restaurant, a wing restaurant with a twist to be exact, and eventually open up a chain. I was laid off shortly after i signed the lease on the place, i had already started renovation, I used up all of my savings, my lady ended up in a comma for a week after an emergency surgery, and now almost 2 years I am still not open yet, backed up on rent, landlord called the other day and said to be expected an eviction letter from her attorney, some telling me I'm wasting my time etc. I 've tried crowd-funding, tried to obtain a loan etc. I was really discourage and started to feel that my dream won't come true until I watch your interview and took in your words of advice. My lady is going back into surgery on June 7, to remove an hernia caused by the last surgery less than a year ago, which we have to pay out of pocket upfront because of not having health care and the surgery is a must right away, it's been put off a few times already due to financial reasons, but the doctor said she must have it right away. With all that going and not able to find work, not able to open the restaurant, people telling me to give it up,i really started to feel discourage, but Praying to God, keeping the faith and your words of encouragement shows me that all I have to do is Believe. Please Keep me in your prayer and I will do the same. You are a great blessing to many,Keep doing your great work stay humble and faithful to the creator, shake the haters off, remember even Jesus was hated on, so who are we for us not to be hated on? keep laying them down by the riverside. May God continue to Bless you and your work. Jeremiah.

Tyler it was if you went into my child's mind. My daughter have been writing since she was a teenager. This is her passion and like you she feels that her dream may not come to pass. You see, she was diagnosed with Juvenile onset diabetes when she was 3. She is now 36 and has lost her eye sight in one yes and has very limited sight in the good eye. She never asks for handouts but feels she does not matter in this life be no matter which way she turns, she can't get anyone to guide her n the right directions. She does not know that I wrote to you. Is there. any advise on how to go about getting her book published except for self publishing. I just want to help my child and do and ask whoever I can to help her realize her dream. She had her book copyrighted last year and posts a chapter every Tuesday on Facebook. The name of her book is called, 'The Story That is Us.' And she is under Millie Key.

Thank you for that!!! I'm pretty sure that my journey through this miserable job, (insurance agent), will teach me something that will benefit me in my own budding business. It's good that someone who's been in the tunnel and reached the light and look back and encourage other on that same journey! I did hit you guys up with a request for your company to try my services there in Atlanta. I hope it gets into the right hands and that person sees fit to give me a try!! Be blessed and continue to share your progress. Thanks! Jeff Stone.
