Everybody’s favorite grandma topped the box office on opening weekend, beating out the highly anticipated Tom Cruise film, Jack Reacher.
The seventh Madea movie, a comedic take on your classic Halloween horror, took home an estimated $27.6 million at the box office on opening weekend, almost 60 percent more than expected by analysts according to The New York Times.
The article cites the “clever marketing campaign” behind Boo! as one of the main contributors to the film’s overwhelming success. “An appearance by Mr. Perry as the politically incorrect Madea on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ was viewed more than 73 million times on Facebook alone.”
Boo! A Madea Halloween is in theatres nationwide.
